About Me

I work as an employed barrister in the Trade and Energy litigation department at Holman Fenwick Willan. I work mainly with disputes arising from contracts associated with international trade of soft commodities (grain, sugar) and energy (oil, gas). I trained as a commercial litigation barrister at 20 Essex Street Chambers.

Law

I studied law at Oxford University, and the European University Institute. I really enjoyed both of these courses. I did my obligatory year of law school at BPP.

I especially like private law, and did research during 2003-4 about Illegal Contracts. You can read my Masters thesis, if you like, here. You can also read my paper about comparative law and the harmonisation of European Contract Law in Italian or the incomplete version in English. In the unlikely event that you want to copy any of that material, you can do so as long as you credit me under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution 2.0 England & Wales License. I also am interested in a lot of other areas of law, especially European law.

Computing

I’ve always liked computers. Since about 2000 or so I have become interested in opensource software, and especially the GNU/Linux operating system. I’ve tried various flavours of this operating system (Fedora, Mandrake, Gentoo, Debian and Ubuntu) on my computers and have gradually learnt more and more. I still have a lot to learn, and it is really addictive. The great thing about opensource software is that anyone can contribute, in many varied ways. I help out on the Ubuntu project, on their documentation and italian teams and on the Community Council, the governance board of the project. My page is here.

Other Interests

I also like sports, especially cricket and golf, which I play badly, and watch eagerly on television. I like music, of many different types, and I play the piano and cello, although I rarely get a chance to play at the moment. :/

You can read my CV, if you like, here. I’m happy to say that I haven’t had to update it for a while.
