I am just surprised to recognise how much of tips I received on this specific content. I m so pretty thankful of you. One thing I can point out that, after browsing this post I received rescued from the total useless search I should have performed on this issue. Your post is a real true blessing in disguise.

Daeng - yes, it will be difficult but we can do it by working together.

Dinda:

- About toolchain - I think ubuntu-doc definitely needs to work harder on lowering barriers to entry. That's certainly something that ubuntu-manual has done well. There is no reason why ubuntu-doc can't be just as easy to contribute to.

- About audience, having a different output format is not the same as having a different audience. Audience refers to the type of user who is reading the material - there is no difference between the projects on that, both projects' aim is to make their material readable for beginners. It would have been perfectly possible for ubuntu-manual to reuse all of ubuntu-doc's material, add material, improve on material, contribute back, and still produce a manual. It took me about an hour to turn ubuntu-doc's material into a pdf manual - starting from that would have been more efficient, more collaborative, and in the end, beneficial to everyone, especially users.

The success of the Manual Project is due in large part to the easy toolchain. No learning curve or even downloading the whole branch just to get started. For new contributors this is key; the barrier to entry has to be low. Also, it's a completely different audience. Topic-based help is fine for quick reference but the manual is readable and can be printed easily.

I look forward to seeing if the two teams can find a path to greater collaboration.

I was a little confused at BH's apparent intention to fork and do everything on his own. I felt a little bit of ego involved, to be honest. Maybe he wanted something for his CV.

I'm excited about the move to Mallard, but there's a lot of work involved.

Wow. That's great. Ubuntu has really worked hard to deserve all these publicity. It's also great to see that mainstream media is beginning to show interest in Linux in general. Thanks for the post
